What’s better than seeing 3,000 cherry blossom trees blanket the capital in a sea of pink? Seeing them for less.
Amtrak is offering 25 percent discount on trips to Washington D.C. during this year’s National Cherry Blossom Festival when you book 14 days in advance.
The discount applies to the Northeast Regional service to D.C. on one-way coach fares for trips through April 15. Some estimated prices for this deal include: Richmond, VA ($26); Wilmington, DE ($39); Newport News, VA ($39); Philadelphia, PA ($39); Newark, NJ ($49); Newark Airport ($54); New York, NY ($49); and Stamford, CT ($57).
If you want to take advantage of this deal, start planning now. Due to an early spring season, the festival begins earlier than usual, from March 15 to April 16 — with opening ceremonies starting March 25. This means that if you want to be there for the opening ceremony, you should book by March 11, putting you in D.C. just after peak bloom, which the National Park Service projects will take place between March 19 and 22.
If you can’t make it that early, don’t sweat it. You have the entire month of March to book this deal since the festivities last until April 16.
Some popular events to catch throughout the month are the Blossom Kite Festival on the grounds of the Washington Monument on April 1, the National Cherry Blossom Festival Parade along Constitution Avenue NW on April 8, and the Southwest Waterfront Fireworks Festival on April 15.
