Autumn in the Southeast is a glorious time to visit as summer’s humidity dies down to make way for cooler days. And there is nowhere more posh than Jekyll Island Club Hotel, a former private retreat turned tony hotel on its namesake barrier island off the coast of Brunswick, Georgia, midway between Jacksonville, Florida, and Savannah, Georgia.

The upscale resort is courting visitors during its shoulder season with a Fall Getaway package that suddenly makes an expensive lodging choice within reach. The $300 nightly rate includes a  four-course dinner for two, plus a bottle of its signature wine (or sparkling wine if bubbles are more to your liking). Dinner can be taken in the grand dining room or the Courtyard at Crane. These extra perks are valued at about $200-$225 (dinner at either venue runs about $75 per person, plus wine service), and rates this fall normally hover around $289 per night, so  it’s truly a deal for the fall foliage season. The package is available for stays through November 25 and includes either traditional or clubhouse accommodations.

Whether you prefer golf -- the hotel boasts Georgia’s largest golf resort -- or simply being surrounded in grandeur, Jekyll Island Club Hotel delivers. Victorian turrets and 125 years of history await, rightfully earning the hotel a spot on the National Register of Historic Places. And did we mention it’s snug on the beach?
