In the wake of the devastating earthquake that ravaged Haiti, many of us are now wondering what we can do to offer desperately needed help. One of the best (and easiest) ways is simply to donate money to relief organizations that will go about providing immediate needs like food and medical supplies as well as begin the longer term project of rebuilding the country. In order to encourage support, Spirit Air has announced it will give out 5,000 Free Spirit miles for every donation of $5 or more made through its website. Just follow the link, fill in your information and the amount you’d like to donate, and the miles will be credited to your account in 6-8 weeks. Participating charities include the American Red Cross, UNICEF, and Yéle Haiti.

Remember you’ll have to register for Spirit Air’s Free Spirit program to participate. Only the first 200,000 members will receive the free miles, and must fill out the form by January 17 to qualify. While Spirit advertises that 5,000 miles is enough for a free roundtrip flight, that only applies to Free Spirit MasterCard holders flying at off-peak times to a destination less than 1,250 miles away (check out the membership guide for more information). Regardless, we encourage all our readers to donate to this worthwhile cause in one form or another – and if you receive some free air miles in the process, all the better.
