From $195: A Surprising NYC Hotel Discount This Summer

It's not every day that you find a hotel discount in New York City during the summer. Though Big Apple residents are on vacation, it's peak tourist season. That's why we're so thrilled to see prices drop by nearly 55 percent this July and August at one chic hotel in the city.

The Ludlow , tucked along Ludlow Street on Manhattan’s Lower East Side, only debuted last autumn. Like all other NYC properties owned by hotelier Sean MacPherson -- including The Marlton, The Bowery, The Jane, and The Maritime Hotels -- the rooms here are cozy but incredibly chic. A studio queen terrace room, for example, might be just 225-square-feet, but it comes complete with a rain shower, Moroccan-style lamps, bed frames crafted from petrified wood, and of course an outdoor furnished terrace.

We found rates as low as $195 per night for weeknights in mid- and late-July as well as every weekend in August, with the exception of the 21st to 23rd. Even for Fourth of July weekend, plus July 10-13, you can still snag that low rate. Other nights during these two months, nightly costs are just slightly higher at $225 -- still a good deal considering that we saw starting rates between $425 and $455 this spring. Even in September, weekend rates still start from $295-$345.

More about the hotel: The 184-room boutique is so hip that it’s part of Design Hotels, a collection of independent properties around the world, each with its own character and thoughtfully laid out details. Inside The Ludlow, guests enjoy free WiFi, and there are two options for noshing and imbibing. Dirty French dishes up salads, fish, and hearty meat fare, such as lamb saddle and country ribs. Its eclectic brunch menu features French-inspired selections like crepes with spiced maple syrup and pain perdu (French toast with pecans and chicory coffee caramel). The Lobby Lounge and Garden are all about the cocktails.
