Florida is vacation heaven for travelers seeking sand and sea, and Hammock Beach Golf Resort & Spa is the quintessential Sunshine State getaway. Situated at the edge of the Atlantic, the property offers plenty of recreational options in water and on land -- making it a top choice with vacationers who crave active fun in the sun.

What You Need to Know

This large, casual seaside resort is located in the city of Palm Coast in the state's northeastern corner. Guests need not leave the expansive premises, which include a spa, fitness center, golf course, tennis courts, and several swimming pools. Meanwhile, the six on-site eateries serve everything from sushi to Italian food.

However, the real star of the show is the resort's two-mile swath of unspoiled beach, distinguished by its unusual cinnamon-hued sand courtesy of crushed coquina shells.

The Look of Hammock Beach Golf Resort & Spa

The resort is surrounded by lush vegetation with swaying palm trees, glossy green fronds, and colorful flower beds, adding tropical flair. Accommodations are simple, with pops of coastal color adding panache to decorative accents such as throw pillows and bedspreads. Multi-bedroom villas have full kitchens and balconies with panoramic vistas. A big, boisterous pool complex is at the resort's center.

The Vibe at Hammock Beach Golf Resort & Spa

The property appeals to sporty visitors as well as vacationers who want to do nothing more than to relax with a book or a drink in hand. This low-key resort never feels stuffy, but, with kids splashing in the pool all day, it's not tranquil, either.

Who Will Love Hammock Beach Golf Resort & Spa

Thanks to the beautiful beach and massive pool complex -- complete with a lazy river and twisting slide -- children and adults will be over the moon here. Golf enthusiasts have hit the jackpot with two stunning courses, as well as a separate putting course. Tennis players are drawn to the courts overlooking the Intracoastal Waterway. Beachcombers will be pleased with the clean stretch of sand, where dolphins frolic offshore, and the occasional loggerhead turtle meanders by.

Who Might Not Love Hammock Beach Golf Resort & Spa

Night owls and spring breakers who've come to party should look elsewhere as there's not much nightlife. However, those in search of R&R may also consider a different hotel. With plenty of pint-sized guests, serenity and silence may also be hard to find. Additionally, travelers who favor boutique properties may feel overwhelmed by the resort's sprawling size.

The Jack Nicklaus-designed Ocean Course winds along unspoiled wetlands with holes dramatically overlooking the Atlantic. Getting There

In the Neighborhood of Hammock Beach Golf Resort & Spa

Palm Coast is home to 19 miles of the Atlantic coastline. The area is made up of five communities, each with a different flavor, though laid-back is the unifying factor. Funky Flagler Beach is a mellow town where retired folks fish, kids build sandcastles, and surfers catch waves.

There are numerous parks, including gracious Washington Oaks Gardens State Park, with formal gardens displaying camellias and azaleas. Several short hiking trails are great for a stroll.

Visitors who enjoy cycling should head to the Mala Compra Plantation Greenway trail system, located off the A1A, spanning between the Intracoastal Waterway and the Atlantic Ocean. A canopy of tall oaks circles the trails, so you'll pedal in the shade even when the temperature soars.
