Raise a glass to Cunard this summer — the traditional British cruise line wants to pay for all of your drinks on a seven-night cruise when you book by August 31.
The deal applies on select seven-night sailings in 2018 for passengers who book one of the higher-tier cabins — a Balcony or a Grill Suite — with a $200 deposit per person. You can choose from either a Northern Europe, Mediterranean, or Transatlantic itinerary, on one of the line’s three regal ships — Queen Elizabeth, Queen Victoria, or Queen Mary 2.
Balconies start at $1,149 per person for a Northern Europe itinerary (this one to Spain and France in April) — a good price, since they can easily reach $2,200. On the lowest-priced Mediterranean itinerary to Italy, Spain, and Rome in October, balconies start at $1,699, also slightly less than average, and on the lowest-priced Transatlantic crossing from New York to Southampton in October, balconies start at $1,699, which vary but can easily reach $2,000.
Before you go for that rare expensive whiskey on board, note that only drinks under $12 are on the house and the offer doesn’t apply to drinks ordered through room service. Even so, you’re going to get significant value. Let’s say you order three $12 drinks per day during your seven-night cruise (and don’t worry about the 15 percent automatic gratuity, because the line is covering that, too). That saves you $252, or $290 with gratuity. And hey, no one says you can’t order a few more, either.
We wouldn’t wait for a better deal from Cunard. They’re not your average party cruise line with low budget fares, and they don’t normally offer drink packages, save for a limited wine or coffee package. And, the line’s ships are both elegant and traditional, so when we see a deal — we say jump on it.
