When you arrive at the Malibu Beach Inn (which is located right on California’s famed Pacific Coast Highway), you might not know where to check in. The entrance is a narrow foyer leading to the quaint Carbon Beach Club Restaurant, flanked by gorgeous sea views. A valet will steer you to the small check-in building on the left of the driveway. From there, you’ll traverse through open-air hallways to your room. Once inside, you can take in the unobstructed ocean views from either the king bed or the sleeper sofa near the balcony. Here's our review of this posh boutique property.
The Look of Malibu Beach Inn
In 2015, Simon and Daniel Mani (the owners of Brothers Realty Group) purchased the property for nearly $80 million from Hollywood mogul David Geffen. Since then, the hotel underwent a stylish renovation. Today, the rooms feature a very coastal California look, complete with Scandinavian-style furniture and a color palette of blues and grays. Throughout the rooms and common spaces, you'll find specially curated artwork from the Mani brother's personal collections.
The Vibe at Malibu Beach Inn
The 47-room hotel is not your traditional seaside lodging filled with nautical-themed decor. Instead, you'll find modern art and photography rather than anchors and portholes.
Who Will Love Malibu Beach Inn
For those who want to enjoy what Malibu has to offer (namely the beach and nature) without too much of a scene, the Malibu Beach Inn makes it possible to do both.
Who Might Not Love Malibu Beach Inn
The rooms are small in size but not necessarily in price. If you’re seeking more space to spread out or a cheaper stay, it might be best to take a day trip to Malibu instead.
Best Amenity at Malibu Beach Inn
Rooms are outfitted with a range of fun and high-end amenities like Nespresso machines, SMEG teapots, Bose speakers, free wifi, giant TV screens, and full-sized bottles of alcohol in the minibar. The dolphin sightings are pretty spectacular, too (depending on the season).
What’s Included at Malibu Beach Inn
Guests have direct access to the beach behind the hotel, along with beach chair set-ups and umbrellas. A complimentary one-hour yoga class is also offered to guests at 9 a.m. daily.
Fees and Extra Costs You Should Know About at Malibu Beach Inn
Standard taxes and fees should be expected. Valet parking is $36 per night.
How to Get a Deal at Malibu Beach Inn
Booking directly with the hotel — and checking the offers tab — is the best way to get the lowest price. Visit in the off-season (winter) rather than the peak summer months to score lower rates.

The Malibu Pier, located on Surfrider Beach, is right next door. Come here to dine at Malibu Farm and, afterward, take some time to browse the nearby shops. Across the street from the property, you'll find the Malibu Country Mart, which is home to tons of shops, a SoulCycle, Whole Foods, and a playground for kids. The celebrity-loved Nobu Malibu, along with Little Beach House (a Soho House outpost), are both a five-minute walk from the Malibu Beach Inn.
