Over 20 million travelers flock to Cancun every year, most searching for fun in the sun at one of the destination’s many oceanfront all-inclusive resorts. While most of these properties offer similar amenities like a plethora of included on-site drinking and dining offerings and activities, few compare to the Moon Palace Cancun, which stands out for its upscale accommodations and robust entertainment programming that appeals to guests of all ages. Here’s our full review of this family-friendly oasis.

What You Need to Know

The Look of Moon Palace Cancun

It's All in the Details

Moon Palace Cancun is divided into two distinct sections: Sunrise and Nizuc, both of which have their own lobbies. The former is well-suited for adults and older families with its vibrant pools, surfing simulator, arcade lounge, and nightclub. The latter, meanwhile, is ideal for families with young children thanks to its calmer pools, basketball courts, and Playroom, the aptly named kids’ club. Wherever they stay, guests have access to the entire resort, which boasts 11 restaurants, including Gondola, a splashy Italian eatery, and Momo for hibachi, along with seven bars. Both Sunrise and Nizuc have sleek, modern interiors; the main thing that sets them apart is the amenities — but more on that in a bit.

In terms of accommodations, there are a total of 1,339 rooms and suites to choose from, each of which is done up in a timeless neutral color palette and contemporary décor. Even the most standard rooms offer luxe amenities like en-suite double-whirlpool tubs, fully stocked minibars replenished daily, and in-room liquor dispensers. Certain suite categories offer exclusive amenities, such as Superior Honeymoon Suites, which include personal check-in and access to a private beach area; Swim-Up Suites, which provide direct access to private pools; and Superior Family Suites, which have two connecting rooms.

The Vibe of Moon Palace Cancun

Ultimately, the vibe of the resort depends on which side you’re on. Nizuc is billed as the “more serene side of the Moon," meaning you’ll spot lots of young families splashing in one of the pools — one exclusively reserved for children — or zipping down one of the water slides. As mentioned earlier, Sunrise is more boisterous thanks to its more active amenities, such as an arcade, surfing simulator, and nightclub.

Who Will Love Moon Palace Cancun

Families of all ages — as well as couples and large groups of friends — will love that this property offers something for everyone, be it pickleball, tennis, mini-golf, or surfing for the more actively inclined or a spa and meditation garden for those seeking R&R.

Who Might Not Love Moon Palace Cancun

While the resort caters to couples — they even have Honeymoon Suites — those specifically craving a kid-free escape won’t find that here, no matter which side they’re staying on.

Best Amenity at Moon Palace Cancun

With so many to choose from, it’s hard to pick just one. That’s why we’re going with three:

  1. The Dreamery, which includes exceptional amenities for kids, including water blasters and balloons, and the aforementioned kids’ club (where children aged four through 12 can partake in activities like face painting, crafting, and movie screenings).
  2. The expansive Awe Spa, which offers a state-of-the-art hydrotherapy circuit and unique treatments such as wood massage therapy and chocolate body wraps.
  3. The 27-hole Jack Nicklaus-designed golf course — divided into three separate nine-hole courses —  where players of all experience levels can practice their swing.
