Good news for budget-conscious cruisers: New York will soon see its most affordable cruises yet. European cruise line MSC Cruises announced one of their newest ships, MSC Meraviglia, will offer three sailings from Manhattan in fall 2019 — bringing with it some of the cheapest fares in the city.
The ship will sail two 10-night New England and Canada cruises — its first in North America — starting at $799 per person on Oct. 8 and Oct. 18, meaning you'll pay just $80 per day per person in prime leaf-peeping season. We checked the competition to compare the value, and none of the current New York-based ships from Princess, Holland America, Cunard — and definitely not Disney — come close to that. Not even budget-friendly line Norwegian Cruise Line, which is usually the cheapest option from New York, can beat that price — its lowest priced sailing in the region at the same time starts at $949 per person, and on an older ship at that.
The ship's third and final sailing from New York will be a 13-night cruise to Miami on Oct. 28, 2019 starting at $999 per person — another great value sailing for this region — before homeporting in Miami and sailing to the Caribbean.
It’s safe to say these budget-friendly cruises create a whole new ball game for cruisers departing from New York, especially for families. The 4,475-passenger MSC Meraviglia is new, having just launched in June 2017, and for that reason alone you’re already getting an incredible value. Add to that exclusive Cirque du Soleil shows, an aqua park with four water slides, an Eataly, and a LEGO-themed kids club and you’ve got an affordable vacation that appeals to just about every age group.
With only three New York sailings available, the savings are a limited time offer (you can book one of MSC Meraviglia's New York sailings here starting Jan. 2, 2018). The real question is: Will the ship return to New York in the future?
