2010 VANCOUVER OLYMPICS
Join our intrepid Vancouver correspondent, Celeste Moure, for a front-row seat to the cultural happenings, travel news, hotel openings, events, parties, and general hullabaloo surrounding the Winter Olympic Games.

Olympic dreams can still come true, even for those making last-minute plans. The Fairmont Chateau Whistler has rooms available on select dates from February 12 to 28 during the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. Nestled at the base of Blackcomb Mountain, guests at the Chateau can take advantage of fresh powder turns at their doorstep thanks to ski-in and ski-out convenience (over 90% of Whistler Blackcomb’s 8,100 skiable acres are open to the public during the Games). No ticket? No problem. Anyone on the mountain can get a free peek at the alpine events (Downhill, Slalom, Giant Slalom, etc) from special “viewing pods” set up on the Men’s and Ladies’ race courses. Heading over to Whistler Mountain, where the downhill Olympics events are held, is as easy as jumping aboard the new Peak 2 Peak Gondola, which connects the top of both mountains in a short 11-minute ride. Meanwhile back at the Chateau, budding Olympians aged seven to 17 can check out the just launched RU Ready? program, an interactive fitness curriculum that teaches kids the athletic skills needed to excel in skiing, snowboarding, skating, curling and other winter sports.
