Deal Alert: $179 Flights to Hawaii

This deal has expired, but be sure to check out our Top 25 deals of the week for savings on trips to destinations around the globe.

Albeit their name is chill-inducing, Alaska Airlines is offering nonstop flights from western cities to the Hawaiian islands from $179 one way; total round-trip flights start at $400. This three-day sale ends on March 2 and is good for travel between April 16 and May 23, 2018.

We found prices were cheapest for flights departing and returning Mondays through Thursdays. While flying out of smaller airports is not usually the most frugal option, this deal features inexpensive airfare from smaller airports including San Jose, Oakland, and San Diego, to destinations like Kauai, Kona, and Maui.

In comparison, similar routes offered by Hawaiian, Delta, and American cost anywhere from $20-$120 more and often were not direct. The stopovers added an average of five more hours of travel time and sometimes more than two layovers. (These numbers and flights were pulled from Expedia.)

Here are our best-in-cost picks from the sale:

San Jose to Kauai from $179

Oakland to Kona from $189

Portland to Maui from $199

San Francisco to Maui from $199

Anchorage to Honolulu from $229

Salt Lake City to Kona from $299

Remember, too, that Alaska recently acquired the Virgin Atlantic empire — and along with it, Virgin's extra legroom and optimal in-flight service policies. Their expansive frequent-flier program is also worth it for travelers stationed near the smaller-airport regions listed above, because there are always options from Alaska Airlines out of these smaller airports.
