Kimpton Seafire Resort + Spa

Lots of people visit Grand Cayman on a cruise. That's a lovely way to see the island, but Grand Cayman—which is only 22 miles long—is worthy of a weekend (or longer) getaway. The ideal place to stay is the Kimpton Seafire Resort + Spa, the brand's first hotel outside of the U.S. Here's our review.

The Basics

Budget Level: Upscale ($300+ per night)

Lodging Type: Large-Size Hotel (266 guest rooms and suites)

What You Need to Know

The Look

Situated on Grand Cayman's famed Seven Mile Beach, the Kimpton Resort + Spa is a marriage of modern design and beach-chic interiors. From the moment you step into the grand lobby, the hotel feels as if it were made for Instagram. Expect eye-catching artwork, cruiser bikes on display, design-savvy seating nooks, and flora and fauna for days. Have a drink and fresh-caught ceviche at Coccoloba, the property's upscale beach bar with pinch-me views of the water. Then sip your morning coffee on the balcony—every room has one.

The Vibe

The property's modern design draws in those who appreciate a sleek aesthetic—and of course beach lovers. This resort—with it's myraid of room layouts—is ideal for weddings (and especially those who want to tie the knot on the beach). You'll find honeymooners lounging in the poolside cabanas or beach beds (complete with a cooler of drinks), and families who love the big swimming pool and lawn games.

Locals hit Ava for Sunday brunch: a must-do with loads of seafood, a carving station, and free-flowing bubbly; and Coccoloba, the quintessential beachside restaurant and bar, for Tuesday Taco night.

Who Will Love It

Honestly, everyone. During our visit, we saw a mix of honeymooners, families, older adults, wedding parties, and group trips. This resort hits all the marks when it comes to having something for every traveler.

Who Might Not

Travelers on a budget. While the hotel offers great deals and perks, there's a $60 per night resort fee.

    Best Amenity

The hotel’s restaurant, Avecita, is a reason to choose this hotel. Chef Massimo De Francesca’s nightly seating at the chef's bar is a culinary experience unlike any we've had in the Caribbean. Each night, at 7 p.m. sharp, just 10 diners are led from the bar to the counter so that they can watch the kitchen staff prepare and serve a five-course (plus some bonus bites) menu with optional wine pairings. In a nutshell: It's incredible and a must-book when visiting the island. (Multi-course dinner is offered at just $68 and wine pairings are an additional $55.)

A close second: The spa, complete with a steam room and co-ed hot tub, a stunning hamaan, and lovely relaxation room.

    Money Matters

    Getting There

    In the Neighborhood

With a top-billed location on the stunning Seven Mile Beach, Kimpton Seafire Resort + Spa is surrounded by the gorgeous blue waters and plenty of dive sites. Not far is Camana Bay, which is perfect for exploring restaurants, shopping, and nightlife.

    Nearest Airport

The Owen Roberts International Airport is a 15-minute drive. There's a taxi stand (about $30 to reach the resort, cash only) located right outside the door.

    The Bottom Line

For a stunning design and a beachside location, the Seafire Resort + Spa delivers.
