On Friday, Chilean airline LAN and Brazilian airline TAM announced a merger that would create the largest airline in Latin America. Pending approval from both companies’ shareholders, the proposed deal allows for the two airlines to continue their individual operations under the umbrella of a parent company, to be called LATAM.
