From the Gold Rush to the Summer of Love, San Francisco is, hands-down, among the country’s most eclectic cities. So it only makes sense that the lodging options here are equally unique. Situated in the heart of the Theater District — just steps away from bustling Union Square — The Marker San Francisco is among our favorite hotels in town thanks to its classic-meets-modern aesthetic and central locale. Ahead, our full review.

What You Need to Know

The Look of The Marker San Francisco

It's All in the Details

The Marker San Francisco dates back to 1910, when it was known as the Bellevue Hotel. It reopened as The Marker in 2018. While lots has changed over the last 100-plus years, the property’s striking Beaux Arts exterior has withstood the test of time. The lobby is decked out in a mix of contemporary and jewel-toned furnishings while striking light fixtures add a whimsical flair. While you wait for your room to be ready, make yourself right at home by the roaring fireplace. Alternatively, head to the cozy living room area with comfy seating, plenty of books, and yet another fireplace. Rooms and suites feature fun pops of color and patterns in the form of accent walls, seating, throw pillows and blankets, and artwork. House plants and fresh blooms add a homey touch.

The Vibe at The Marker San Francisco
