The Big Easy is famous for its buzzy, high-energy, and party-centric vibes. However, those looking for a more secluded stay can check into The Pontchartrain Hotel. Ideally situated in New Orleans' tree-lined Garden District, the property offers some-needed respite from the hustle and bustle of Bourbon Street.

What You Need to Know

The Look of The Pontchartrain Hotel

It's All in the Details

The Pontchartrain Hotel is housed in a stunning 1920s-era building — that’s instantly recognizable with a red awning and green accents — along St. Charles Avenue. Upon entering the hotel, you’ll feel as if you’ve stepped back in time: The lobby features elaborate crystal chandeliers, checkered flooring, floral curtains, and lush palms, while red-tasseled skeleton keys are displayed behind the check-in guest. The drinking and dining establishments also evoke a similar Old World-inspired aesthetic.

Additionally, the rooms and suites here offer antique furnishings, a combination of textures and patterns, plus funky of black and mint-green hues that were purposefully selected to mimic the oaks and palms found throughout the Garden District. The plush tufted headboards (which, spoiler alert, are also green) and the beautiful Moroccan rugs only add to the fun. You'll also find pops of red in the form of throw pillows, chairs, and curtains. As a bonus, each bathroom is outfitted with luxe Le Labo toiletries.

The Vibe at The Pontchartrain Hotel

The vibe here is best described as elegant without being pretentious or stuffy. The staff is helpful and knowledgable — it’s southern hospitality, after all — and guests include everyone from couples to families, to groups of friends. This historic property is also a favorite amongst locals and travelers alike for its on-site drinking and dining offerings, including the popular Hot Tin rooftop bar and lounge. Pro-tip: This is the place to stay for a prime seat during Mardi Gras.

Hot Tin — the trendy rooftop bar and lounge modeled after a 1940s artist's loft — is a highlight. We recommend stopping by for a pre-dinner drink or a nightcap (it’s open ‘til 2:00 a.m).
