The Roxy: A Quintessential Downtown NYC Hotel Sings a New Song

New York City’s TriBeCa Grand Hotel walked an interesting line -- it was both a trendy hotspot and a venerable landmark, a place to blend into a tony, residential neighborhood and a place to be seen. Now, this property is getting a whole new look and feel.

The hotel has been renamed The Roxy, complete with a bulb-lit marquis, and is undergoing an extensive renovation. We recently visited the hotel and chatted with its General Manager, Yadira Martinez, who told us that the re-do will invigorate the hotel's rooms and public offerings -- and further differentiate the property from its sister, the SoHo Grand. By spring, the lobby will host an outpost of Jack’s Stir Brew Coffee and a Blackstones salon. A new downstairs jazz club, The Django, is already open for business, and you’re just as likely to meet a band or a DJ performing in the lobby lounge as you are a concierge.

Music and performing arts are the pervasive themes. There are Marshall amp speakers and turntables in the newly styled suites, along with a curated selection of vinyl. Even the gold-toned, vintage-style wallpaper in the bathrooms feels cinematic; Martinez pointed out that the pattern is similar to that of the iconic carpeting in the fictional Overlook Motel in The Shining.

Look for rooms fully redone in browns, oranges, and golds with textured wallpaper, leather accents, and midcentury-style chandeliers. In the meantime, if you want to test drive the new vibe -- which is already in full swing in the lobby -- the hotel is open while it’s undergoing renovations. Even better, it's offering guests 20 percent off stays. Find rooms starting at $280 per night through March using booking code ROXYINTRO. You might also nab some even lower rates -- as low as $245 per night -- on Expedia over some very select dates within this time period.
