Heading to the midwest for a conference? If your destination happens to be Milwaukee, you could find yourself headed to the Delta Center. But, with any luck, you'll have a few hours here and there where you aren't tasked with waltzing up and down the concourses within. In an effort to get you outside the boardroom and into the wilds of the Cream City, we’re offering up two restaurants, two attractions, and one bar that you can hit with just a few extra hours between meetings.

EAT:
You might not expect to find authentic German cuisine in the capital of Wisconsin, but it's here, and it's quite close to the downtown convention center. Mader's Restaurant is home to some of the best reuben sandwiches you'll ever find, and if you let your imagination run a little wild, you'll probably forget that you're in the U.S. It's a great time for those who appreciate atmospheres.

For an even wilder time, there's The Safe House. It's a spy-themed place, with plenty of space, food options, and drinks. It's hardly the place to go if you're looking to seal a business deal over an evening bite, but if you're looking to cut loose a little with some newfound friends, this is one experience you won't soon forget. Just be sure to ask around for the secret password of the evening.

DO:
If you've only got an hour or so to explore, I'd recommend a quick trip to The Domes. Officially, it's the Mitchell Park Horticultural Conservatory, but it's unofficially known more by its wild exterior. Nevertheless, it's the interior that's worth touring, and at under $10, it's a real bargain as well. You'll be able to explore all sorts of ecosystems without ever leaving the city, from the Desert Dome to the Tropical Dome to the Floral Show Dome.

Hopefully you brought along a decent pair of walking shoes and a comfortable coat, because much of the city is best enjoyed on foot. In fact, those with a few spare hours (and a penchant for taking photos) should head to the Oak Leaf Trail. Well, a portion of it, anyway. The full trail stretches over 100 miles, but it's all worthwhile. If you're able, stroll down to South Shore Park, where you'll find one of Milwaukee's beaches. Yes, beaches!

DRINK:
Before catching a plane back home, there's a nightcap joint I'd recommend heading to. Indulge is a fairly swanky wine bar just a few hops from the convention hall. On top of the vino, they offer a wide array of cheeses, chocolates, and handmade truffles. If you made it all week without nabbing a gift for the special ones back home, they'll surely enjoy a few sweets!

This is a recurring feature exploring must-visit locales in a variety of cities. If you find yourself traveling to a place for business, why not venture out and enjoy your surroundings?
