2010 VANCOUVER OLYMPICS
Join our Vancouver stringer, Celeste Moure, for daily happenings from the host city.

Affectionately nicknamed "Vangroovy" and "Vansterdam," this is the kind of city where law enforcement turns a blind eye to pot smoking and hemp cultivation; where Yoga mamas and Prada-wearing jetsetters shop for organic produce next to ladies dressed in traditional Punjabi attire; where same-sex marriage is not only legal but also commonplace. Acceptance is part of Vancouver’s cultural identity. And Whistler, with its open-minded community that welcomes all, is often cited as the premier year-round vacation destination for outdoor adventure-seeking gays and lesbians. It’s no surprise then that for the first time in the history of the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, a “house” has been established for gay and lesbian athletes, coaches, family, and friends. PRIDE House Vancouver (located at Qmunity, BC's Queer Resource Centre) and PRIDE House Whistler (located at the Pan Pacific Whistler Village Centre Hotel) feature TV monitors to watch the events, art installations and a relaxing atmosphere to celebrate and socialize. Don’t miss photographer Jeff Sheng’s celebrated photo series Fearless, which features young athletes across the United States who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender.
