The historical town of San Miguel de Allende is increasingly becoming a tourist hot spot, enchanting visitors with its colorful colonial architecture, cobblestone streets, and vibrant arts scene. One of our favorite places in town is La Valise San Miguel de Allende, an art-centric property with a serene garden, chic courtyard, and thoughtfully designed suites. What You Need to Know
The Look of La Valise San Miguel de Allende
The vermillion-colored historical property is set on a pedestrian-only cobblestone street with large wooden Colonial doors that open into the courtyard, which has a pool and a set of stairs hovering over the water.
All around the chic and minimalist property, guests will find impressionist paintings, furnishings, and installations by Pedro Friedeberg, who is considered Mexico's pre-eminent surrealist.
There are only six suites at this boutique hotel, and each one is different, though they all take inspiration from Mexican and Aztec culture and are filled with bold colors and rich textiles. All rooms have king-sized beds, walk-in showers and bathtubs, and in-room coffee machines. The Alma Suite, which has views of the courtyard and on-site gardens and a white stucco fireplace adorned with Aztec monkeys by Friedeberg, is our favorite. However, no matter which suite you pick, you’ll find beautiful artwork and intricate craftsmanship on display.
