With its cobblestone streets lined with boutiques and galleries, Tribeca is both charming and hip, attracting A-listers (hello, Robert DeNiro!) and well-heeled travelers to the lower tip of Manhattan. The neighborhood is also home to some of New York’s most trend-forward hotels, including Smyth Tribeca. Here’s our full review of this boutique property.
What You Need to Know
The Look of Smyth Tribeca
An assuming, gray-hued exterior conceals a stylish, inviting lobby whose bronze color palette and crackling fireplace feel immediately inviting. Drop your bags and lounge on the ‘60s Cloverleaf sofa or one of the wingback chairs while admiring the hotel’s rotating art collection. The 12-seat Galerie Bar is an intimate haunt for martinis and elevated light bites like oysters and caviar-topped potato cakes.
Upstairs, the 100 understated guest rooms and suites have a soothing, contemporary palette of creams, grays, and light woods and Mid-Century Modern–style furnishings. The views of Lower Manhattan from floor-to-ceiling windows and the black-and-white photographs of New York set the scene. Oversized white marble bathrooms with walk-in rain showers are a highlight. Suites feature separate living rooms for a residential feel; some even have large outdoor terraces (ranging from 300 to 800 square feet) and full kitchens.
The Vibe at Smyth Tribeca
Smyth Tribeca is one of those effortlessly cool spots — it’s upscale and art-filled, but doesn’t feel stuffy. Staff are knowledgeable and friendly, and make an effort to meet your personal needs. The service, combined with the living room-like feel of the lobby and bar, give the hotel a home-away-from-home feel.
Who Will Love Smyth Tribeca
Couples and solo travelers with an affinity for art and design will love it here, for the stunning Tribeca location alone.
Who Might Not Love Smyth Tribeca
While chic, rooms are on the smaller side, so families and groups of friends should look elsewhere (or consider booking a suite). The neighborhood is more suited to return visitors to New York; first-timers may prefer to be closer to Midtown and its concentration of attractions.
Best Amenity at Smyth Tribeca
Operated by the same team behind NYC hotspots Lure Fishbar and Bistrot Leo, Smyth Tavern is the hotel’s cozy all-day restaurant serving “American tavern fare.” Think: deviled eggs topped with crispy fried oysters, a burger with bacon onion jam, or malfadine pasta with Maine lobster and uni butter. In a neighborhood known for culinary excellence, it’s a standout.
