Cape Liberty (Bayonne), New Jersey

Our Review
Deal Expert / Travel Blogger

A most iconic vista greets you at the start of your cruise out of Cape Liberty Cruise Port in Bayonne — you'll sail right past the Manhattan skyline and the Statue of Liberty. It's an awesome sight, especially at dusk when the city lights up. Plus, Bayonne offers convenient access to all the delights of New York City, just across the Hudson River.

What We Love

Year-Round Departures: Despite the Northeast's cold and snowy winters, the purpose-built port facility serves cruise ships all year. Multiple lines depart for itineraries to the Caribbean, Bermuda, and New England/Canada.

Hoboken: Located on the Hudson River, this small town has a youthful vibrancy with corridors of brownstones and funky bars. Hoboken is about 8 miles from Bayonne, and you can take the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail to get to the birthplace of Frank Sinatra.

Best Known For

Statue of Liberty: Not only will your ship sail past Lady Liberty, but you can also easily get to the landmark from New Jersey (and skip the lines on the NYC side of the river). Grab the ferry at Liberty State Park in Jersey City, 6 miles from Bayonne.

Access to the Big Apple: From Jersey City, you can hop a train, bus, or ferry to NYC. Take at least a day before or after your cruise to explore the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Central Park, and Times Square.

Who It's Best For

Culture Cravers: Nearby New York City has dozens of museums and theaters — and the best restaurants in the country, with cuisines from all over the world.

History Buffs: The immigrant experience is on display at Ellis Island and showcases how America became a land of opportunity. You're also close to centuries-old buildings, bridges, and parks.

Don't Say We Didn't Warn You

It's Not Really a Destination: Let's face it, you're here to start your cruise. You won't find attractions within walking distance, but the former Navy base is just 15 minutes from Newark Liberty International Airport.
