Ocho Rios
Port
Deal Expert / Travel Blogger

The more alluring port of this lush island nation, Ocho Rios welcomes 400,000 cruise passengers a year. The town is mostly a duty-free shopping zone with some local eateries, and you can take advantage of the northern coast port’s position between Montego Bay and Kingston to really explore the diverse island.

What We Love

River Run: It’s not a common stop for cruisers, which means the half-day excursion won’t be as crowded as others. Rafts for two leisurely float down the White River past native fauna, tropical flora, and local bird species — and over a few rapids. Stop halfway for lunch with a view.

Bob Marley: You’ll surely hear the hypnotic reggae beats the second you go ashore, and a visit to the Bob Marley Museum in Kingston gives a more expansive view of the singer and his influence. Located in a former residence of Marley's about an hour and a half from Ocho Rios, the museum is packed with memorabilia, awards, and, of course, souvenirs.

Best Known For

GoldenEye: Also known as James Bond Beach, this strand 10 minutes from port is near the home of "007" Writer Ian Fleming. Now a resort, the beach area is still accessible to day visitors. The cove has some amenities, including a restaurant. Go for the jerk meats and rice and peas with a cold Red Stripe.

Blue Mountain Biking: Take a thrilling cycle excursion in the mountains for views, plus a heart-pumping trip down and around the picturesque peaks. And caffeine lovers, this is where the famous coffee is cultivated.

Who It's Best For

Excursion Explorers: The port’s position between two of the island’s most robust offerings of attractions provides endless options for those looking for guided outings that range from athletic to authentic.

Don't Say We Didn't Warn You

Do the Hustle: Jamaica is infamous for the cruise pier shakedown. Arrange all tours and excursions before hitting the port.
