Silver Shadow Review

Our Ship Review
Deal Expert / Travel Blogger

Silversea CruisesSilver Shadow is the equivalent of a floating luxury hotel, where you’ll find multiple restaurants, lavish suites, elegant public rooms, and just 391 traveling companions. The all-suite vessel, launched in 2000 as the line’s first Millennium-class ship and followed in 2001 by sister ship Silver Whisper, is also all-inclusive, so you can put your wallet in the safe when you board and still ask for another flute of rosé Champagne after dinner. This is a decadent way to traverse the globe, whether you’re transiting the Panama Canal or setting off on a four-month world cruise.

What We Love

The Spacious Suites: Silver Shadow is an all-suite ship, with every suite offering an ocean view and 80 percent of them featuring a private veranda. Options range from 287-square-foot Vista Suites with a large picture window to the 919-square-foot Owner’s Suite with its roomy shower, full-size bathtub, and expansive veranda. All suites feature high-thread-count linens, a walk-in closet, and Champagne upon arrival.

Lava Rock Grilling: For such an upscale ship, Silver Shadow still has a sense of fun, best exemplified by al fresco dinners at poolside eatery The Grill. Tables are set with preheated volcanic rocks, so diners can grill their own meat (including steak, pork, lamb, or fish) the way they like it.

Best Known For

Butlers for Every Suite: You’ll quickly discover that while you could probably live without your personable butler, they certainly make life onboard Silver Shadow that much nicer. Impeccably trained to a high standard, they offer to unpack for you, pick up your laundry or shoes for shining, make spa or dinner reservations, and restock the mini fridge as needed.

Le Dame: While all other onboard dining experiences are complimentary, the bespoke French menu at this intimate restaurant is worth the extra fee to enjoy fine dining that blends the best of traditional Parisian gastronomy with modern culinary techniques.

Who It's Best For

Upscale Travelers: Adults with time and money gravitate to Silver Shadow to take them to new places in high style.

Don't Say We Didn't Warn You

Don’t Expect Late-Night Carousing: Silver Shadow is a quiet ship without a thumping disco or hard-drinking partyers. After dinner, passengers sip cognac and puff on cigars in the Connoisseur’s Corner, watch a classical soloist in the Show Lounge, or dance to standards in the Panorama Lounge.
