For $100 per couple on Princess ships you can order an Ultimate Balcony Dinner, a four-course lobster and steak feast paired with sparkling wine and served on a white tablecloth in the privacy of your stateroom balcony. The line also has a Champagne breakfast option for $32.

On MSC Divina and MSC Preziosa, call in an order for a gourmet, thin-crust pizza from the ship’s Eataly specialty restaurant. A favorite combines buffalo mozzarella, Parma ham, fresh arugula, Parmigiano-Reggiano, and high-quality extra virgin olive oil. It’s complimentary if you’re staying in the Yacht Club. Otherwise, you pay about $6 to $12 for your pie, depending on the toppings.

Stay in Penthouse category or above on Crystal Cruises and a huge benefit is being able to order room service dishes from the ship’s Silk Road restaurant (with cuisine by Chef Nobuyuki “Nobu” Matsuhisa). Ask your butler for the chef’s choice of sushi and be prepared for a mind-boggling display.

On Royal Caribbean’s Quantum-class ships, including Anthem of the Seas, you can order room service items from James Beard Award-winning chef Michael Schwartz’s gastropub. Go with the slow-roasted pork sliders, with pickled onion, parsley sauce, and fresh potato chips ($4.95). Note that there’s also a $3.95 service charge if you’re looking for late-night delivery.

The thing about room service on this line’s two small yachts is that you don’t actually need to be in your room. You can order it anywhere on the ship, even while lounging on a sunbed. While you could get a complimentary Yacht Club Sandwich with smoked salmon, shrimp, and crab, we say go for it and splurge on the caviar ($44 an ounce).

If you wake up in the middle of the night with a taste for, say, Norwegian salmon with dill sauce, no worries. That’s available on a complimentary basis 24 hours a day on this line, where you find lots of Scandinavian influences. Sushi and gravlax are on the room service menu, too.

On Carnival Breeze, Carnival Legend, Carnival Pride, Carnival Sunshine, and the new Carnival Vista, you can ring up the Bonsai Sushi restaurant and have rolls brought right to your door. Classics like California rolls and spicy tuna rolls are $5 each, or go with the tempura roll filled with fried shrimp ($7).

If you’re cruising with Carnival and want something a little messier, check out the awesome options for chicken wings on the room service menu. You choose your sauce as well, including honey barbecue or Buffalo ($5). Make sure to request extra napkins.

Azamara’s recently upgraded 24-hour room service menu includes the Mediterranean platterm an elaborate charcuterie tray. Watch a movie in your cabin while munching on a plate of sliced salami and prosciutto, a hunk of Parmesan cheese, olives, crostini with tapenade, hummus, and mini breadsticks.
