Every Waterslide at Royal Caribbean’s CocoCay Island, Ranked

by Jaymie DeGaetano

This spring, after a $250 million revamp, Royal Caribbean reopened its private island in the Bahamas, CocoCay. Among its many new attractions, one stands out from the rest: Daredevil’s Tower, the main water slide complex within the  island’s Thrill Waterpark. Here, guests can experience the Caribbean’s largest wave pool, as well as 13 waterslides — including the tallest in North America. Recently, Royal Caribbean invited us to slide down all 13. Here's our take on each of them, ranked from moderate to extremely thrilling.

13, 12. Manta Raycers

Race down two half-open-air slides as you navigate through fairly tame dips and curves. This ride is perfect for younger children (and adults) who are working up the courage to give the taller slides a try.

11. Green Mamba

At 50-feet tall, Green Mamba has a similar look and feel to Manta Raycers, albeit with more speed and sharper turns.

Set side-by-side, riders race down one of four slides, belly-down, face-first on individual mats. At the end of the course, you all splash down into parallel exit pools. Which slide is the fastest? Try all four to find out.

5. Screeching Serpent

While this slide has maximum intimidation factor — you have to shimmy your way over a dip that leads to a vertical 50-foot drop — the ride is over in a flash.

4. The Slingshot

A maximum of four riders sit facing one another in a circular inner tube. (More riders means bigger thrills, as the heavier bodies end up on a steeper bank at each turn.) At the end of an enclosed twisting circuit, riders fly down a drop and propel up a vertical wall. At the apex, there's a split second of weightlessness before the tube drops back down the wall and into the exit pool.

Riders begin by standing on one of two platforms, facing each other with their backs leaned against a slightly-less-than-90-degree, water-soaked wall. Then, a clear tube encloses the sliders into their launch pads. After a quick three-second countdown, the platform floors disappears, and you're launched into a series of speedy drops and turns.

1. Daredevil’s Peak

At first, Daredevil plays it cool by sending you down a moderately banked curve. But, within a few seconds, the sheer speed of the slide has you flying through a circuit that continuously snakes around Daredevil Tower. If you manage to keep your eyes open, you’ll see a series of seemingly neon-lit stripes, dots, and patterns rush by. Finally, the slide suddenly turns the opposite direction — flinging you over to the other side of the tube before a grand splash slow-down into the exit pool.
