Morocco

Morocco is the type of destination where you can drop $10 and get a full day of local flavor in return. You'll find yourself lost in maze-like medinas that are a sensory explosion of spices, leatherwork, and colorful ceramics, all at negotiable prices. A filling lunch of tagine or couscous runs about $4, and many riads, traditional Moroccan courtyard homes turned guesthouses, can be found for under $50 a night, often with breakfast and mint tea included, such as Riad Sakura in the blue city of Chefchaouen or R'Milla Medina Fes near the UNESCO-protected medina

Morocco's excellent train network makes it easy to move between cities without spending much. A high-speed train from Marrakech — where the call to prayer echoes from pink-hued minarets — to Casablanca, with its Art Deco architecture overlooking the Atlantic, typically costs MAD 90 to 180 ($9 to $18). Longer journeys to Fes, one of the oldest cities in the Arab world, average MAD 150 to 300 ($15 to $30).
