Best for Solo River Cruise Travelers

River cruising is a popular option for solo travelers as river ships generally carry just 100 to 175 guests, making it easy to meet new people.

AmaWaterways features two dedicated 140-square-foot solo French balcony cabins on four of its European ships — AmaCello, AmaDante, AmaDolce, and AmaLyra — and reduced single supplements (typically around 25%) are also available on select sailings on other ships.

As noted above, all American Cruise Lines ships feature generously sized solo cabins. The company offers sailings on the Mississippi, Tennessee, Hudson, and Columbia and Snake rivers.

While other river lines don't have dedicated solo cabins per se, single cruisers can count on Avalon Waterways, Emerald, Riverside Luxury Cruises, Scenic, Tauck, and Uniworld to waive single supplements on select sailings, while Viking and Viva offer reduced single supplements on some sailings. Riviera River Cruises offers cruises specifically marketed to solo travelers, with no single supplement on all cabins.
