Painted Lady Bed & Brew — Albuquerque, New Mexico
A new kind of B&B, where craft beer takes top billing and "breakfast is overrated," Albuquerque's Painted Lady Bed & Brew became the first B&B with a liquor license in New Mexico when it opened on International Beer Day (August 3) in 2018. Housed in a brothel and saloon from 1881, with purported patrons like Billy the Kid, history dominates the property's style, from the Ghost Light Saloon — a micro taproom in an on-site trolley car featuring nightly "hoppy hours" — to its suites. The Lizzie Suite, for example, is named after an infamous Albuquerque madam and is bedecked with chile ristras, local artwork, original wood floors, vintage ephemera, and animal skulls.
