It’s all about timing. To avoid crowds and inflated prices, we recommend the period between high and low seasons when the weather is fine, places are still open and happy to welcome travelers, and you can explore a destination at your own pace. ShermansTravel experts call this magical time and space continuum the Sweet Spot.

When to go to Sun Valley

Peak Season: December to February

The Christmas season bring families to Sun Valley, but despite crowds, there are carolers, sleigh rides, ice sculptures, an ice dance show, and a torchlight parade of skiers who float down the mountain on Christmas Eve.

Off Season: May to August

Though Sun Valley is known as a ski resort, summer brings sunny, 80-degree weather, fly fishing, golf, outdoor pools, hiking, biking, concerts from classical to big-name country, and even outdoor ice skating.

Sweet Spot: September; March to April

If snow sports aren’t your thing, consider early fall, when it’s still warm enough to swim and the hiking trails are open and not crowded. Hotels throw in extras like free lift tickets for kids. April brings no lift lines and deep lift ticket discounts, plus breaks on area hotels and restaurants – and the Sun Valley Lodge’s round heated pool is open year-round.
