Built along Boston's historic Battery Wharf waterfront and shipyards, The Fairmont is one of the city's most sophisticated hotels. That's probably why the 150-room property seems to be the preferred base for professionals and seasoned travelers. Each room, some with charming harbor views, is appointed with handy office space, wireless Internet, and roomy, sleekly designed bathrooms. While its rooms come off cookie-cutter corporate, the hotel manages to pass for homey, furnished as it is with soft linens, fat, comfy chairs and love seats. If you don't feel like drinking and dining in at the raved-about lounge and restaurant, Sensing, embark on a gastronomic journey in the nearby North End where a glut of bars and restaurants await.
