Crystal Mozart: the most luxurious river ship ever?

by  Kristen Boatright | Oct 3, 2016

Crystal Cruises entered the river cruise market this summer with what it is calling the first luxury cruise ship on Europe’s rivers.

Originally built for Peter Deilmann Cruises, the thirty-year-old ship launched in July after an extensive, seven-month renovation. The result is glamorous and elegant: metallic gold and silver accents, plush jewel-tone custom furnishings, and lavish materials throughout — marble and granite added more than 300 tons to the ships total weight.

While evaluating food and service can be difficult in the first couple months of service, one luxury is immediately clear: the luxury of space. Crystal Mozart is the largest ship on Europe’s rivers. Twice the width of standard river vessels, it includes multiple dining options, several lounge spaces, staterooms ranging from 219 square feet to 883 square feet, and a full-size spa and fitness center, both rarities on river vessels.

While the ship is full of breathtaking spaces, our favorite is Crystal Mozart’s expansive top deck, which has — in addition to deck chairs —couches and beanbags for lounging, an outdoor fitness area, gardens, and a pop-up bar that can be raised and lowered to pass under the Danube’s bridges.
