Are you basking in the euphoria of the weak Euro? If you haven’t already jumped on plans to go to Europe in the coming months, maybe the Summer Duo fares promotion from La Compagnie, an all-business class airline, will give you that little nudge.
Now through May 31, travelers can book round-trip, direct airfare for two between New York and Paris from $2,990, for travel between June 30 and September 3. That means that flights for one are just $1,495 each, in high season to boot. The flights leave from Newark International Airport and head to Paris' Charles de Gaulle. But if you don't want to visit the City of Light for some strange reason, the airline is celebrating its new London route in similar fashion. You can snag a flight for you and a friend from Newark to Luton Airport -- technically just outside of the city -- from $3,090. (The booking and travel periods are the same.)
Via the airline's booking engine, we confirmed that a nonstop flight to Paris departing on July 13 and returning on July 20 is currently $2,987 for two travelers with the special. For comparison, regular fares on La Compagnie itself would be $3,587 for the same flights -- and you'd fork over almost $6,200 to fly direct in business class on United or Delta. The crazy part? Return flights two days earlier, on Saturday, more than double to around $17,000 on the American carriers. La Compagnie's special rates are consistent throughout the promo period.
For London, we found special fares of $3,085 for two between July 20 and 27 -- down from $3,889 san special offer. Again, we should note that Luton Airport is actually 30 miles outside of London, but there are plenty of ways to get into the city. Rail rides take between 21 to 40 minutes, with tickets starting at £26.50, or it's about 75 minutes by car. (Cabs will cost around £80 and buses £2-£15 one-way.) The extra bit of travel time and cost here is especially worth it when you consider that United's nonstop flight to London Heathrow Airport costs more than double -- $6,485 -- on the exact same travel dates.
More about the airline: La Compagnie has been making the headlines thanks to its all-business model. Their two Boeing 757s are outfitted with 74 lie-flat seats each. Guests enjoy premium Caudalie amenity kits; tablets loaded with movies, newspapers, games, and books; and food service that dishes like sliced chicken, quail egg, and vegetables in truffle oil, with premium liquor and French wines.
