We've already offered you gift guides for all types of travelers. But with just a few days left before Christmas (and Chanukah already in the rear view mirror), I'm sharing a few more of my favorite pieces of gear, just in case you've been putting off all of your shopping until the last minute. Or, perhaps you're anticipating a bevy of gift cards, checks, and cash stuffed in your stockings and need suggestions for how to spend them all in the new year. Whether you're shopping for a friend, loved one, or yourself, this random assortment of great gear is sure to round out any traveler's collection.
Tretorn Skerry Vinter Boots ($75): Tretorn is known for its rubber rain boots, which are great. However, come winter, when rain turns to sleet and snow, you need more than rubber to keep yourself warm. The Skerry Vinter boots put a winter spin on the classic, by adding a faux fur lining to these brightly colored women's boots. They're 100 percent waterproof, warm, and comfortable for a day wandering the city shopping for a pair of gloves to match. They're also stylish, durable, and affordable, at $75.
Teva Chair 5 Men's Boots ($170): The biggest problem with packing for winter travel is what to do with your boots. They're usually too heavy to comfortably wear to the airport (and on a long flight), but way too big to pack without taking up half of your suitcase. Teva has changed all of that. The Chair 5 boots are incredibly lightweight, while still providing a waterproof outer shell and a Thinsulate liner to cushion and warm your feet. The soft shaft allows you to pack these boots down to the size of your average shoe. That means more room in your luggage for souvenirs!
Dakine Mission Photo Pack ($150): If you're going to be shredding down the slopes this winter, you'll want to document all the jumps, flips, and falls. It's easier than you think to bring along your camera gear when you attack the mountains, assuming, of course, that you pack it all properly. The Dakine Mission Photo pack provides all the padding that your camera and lenses could ever need, straps for your snowboard, a tripod carrying system (for when you want to get fancy), and cushioning on the waist belt to keep you comfortable. There's no need to miss any of the great memories on the mountains!
Snow Peak Mini Hozuki Lantern ($39.95): Whether you're an avid camper (or know someone who is) or just want to be prepared for the next power outage (something we're all acutely aware of here in the New York area), this small-but-powerful lantern from Japanese camping company Snow Peak is perfect. It's small and light, but packs a major punch when turned on. Additionally, the silicon loop connects to the lantern magnetically, so you never need to figure out a way to hang it. The candle mode adds a bit of ambiance (and romance), as well.
Patagonia Men's Conifer Parka ($399): This one is splurge-worthy. If you don't want to walk around town in your ski jacket but want to still need to keep warm, the Conifer Parka from Patagonia is stylish, insulated, water-resistant, and virtually windproof. It's long enough to keep your hips warm, but light enough to avoid feeling bulky. Perfect for a walk from your hotel (or cabin) to the local bar for some winter drinks with friends.
