Whether you're looking to escape from the bitter cold or a destination to embrace the chill, we've got you covered with these five winter travel deals.
If you're seeking an alternative to Riviera Maya’s all-inclusive beachfront resorts, look no further than this boutique hotel in Tulum. Adults-only Howlita has a minimalist-yet-stylish vibe with only nine guestrooms and an outdoor pool. Rates for a standard room this winter are as low as $63, for which we found on most nights in February and March. For $79, you can upgrade to a double deluxe room that has a king bed.
The Art Deco Imperial Hotel in Prague is, as its name suggests, set inside an historic Art Deco building near bustling Old Town. In February and March, rates for a deluxe room are priced from €103 ($110 USD); you'll get a glass of wine, too. To make the case for why you should stay here sooner rather than later, consider the fact that rates in early July hover around $356.
Weekday rates at the Berkshire's The Red Lion Inn fall to an affordable $114, which is much easier on the wallet than summer rates of $205 and higher. We found the $114 rate for a double bed with a shared bath on every night in February and March, except for Fridays and Saturdays. Skiing is nearby, but while on property, take advantage of free yoga classes and live entertainment at the inn’s pub.
Kimpton’s Hotel Allegro is in a sweet spot in downtown Chicago, not far from Millennium Park and shopping on Michigan Avenue. If you can stand the bone-chilling temperatures of the Windy City in February, you'll find nightly rates from $119.20 for queen rooms. The rates bump up slightly to $135 on March 3, 5, 10, 19, 23, 24, and 26, but are still more affordable than ones in April that go as high as $359.
The 43-room Penguin Hotel -- located in a 1940s Art Deco structure -- is offering complimentary room upgrades and 40 percent off when you book direct. With this promotion, nightly rates are from $106 throughout February and March. Note that there is a $19 daily resort fee, covering WiFi, two cocktails, breakfast for two, a pair of water bottles each day, beach towels, and unlimited local calls. This is still a bargain as the nearby Hotel Victor runs $282-$450 during this travel period.
