The 129-year-old company is teaming up with luxury river line Scenic to offer river cruises starting in 2018. Destinations include France’s Bordeaux region and Portugal’s Douro River Valley; Europe’s Rhine, Danube, Main, and Moselle rivers; rivers in Holland and Belgium; and the Irrawaddy in Myanmar.

These National Geographic River Cruises will each host an expert who will lead educational talks and informal discussions throughout the trip. On the European cruises, you’ll also have the chance to learn tips and tricks from the publication’s photographers. 

Pricing for a 7-night Rhine River cruise in July starts at $3,895 per person for a suite (compared to Scenic’s regular sailing at $3,500, and Viking River Cruises at $3,100 for a 7-night Rhine cruise at the same time). For the price, there’s a lot of value bundled into a Scenic cruise: the luxury line is all-inclusive, so you won’t have to pay for meals, butler service, open bar with top-shelf liquor, in-room minibars, entertainment, gratuities, airport transfers, or excursions. On the National Geographic sailings, these will include everything from hiking and biking to in-depth learning experiences that focus on the natural world, culture, and history.
