Pet-owners often opt to leave their beloved furry friends at home while traveling – most hotels and restaurants just aren’t interested in the potential for extra mess and noise complaints, and it can make traveling with pets more difficult and at times much more expensive. Some hotels, though, are making an effort to be not only pet-friendly, but to make your pet’s stay as comfortable as yours, with amenities ranging from doggie yoga to pet room service menus. Most recently, we’ve found great new pet amenities at the Pierre in New York City, the W Hotel Los Angeles-Westwood, and the W Scottsdale.

At the Pierre you can order from the brand new gourmet room service pet menu from 12-11pm.  Dishes include Bruno’s Special Protein Recipe (bison, beef, and beef liver with fruits and vegetables), Lassy’s Atlantic Salmon (salmon fillet, aromatic rice, and haricots verts), and Lucky’s Sweet Treat (the pastry chef’s homemade surprise treat); items run from $8-16. When you check in your pooch will also receive a water bowl with Fiji water and a dog bed. As an added bonus, the concierge can also recommend pet care locations, from vets to walkers to groomers. There is no added deposit required, although dogs must be less than 15 pounds.

The W Hotel Los Angeles-Westwood also wants your pet to eat well, but rather than a room service menu, you can find a pet menu at the hotel’s The Backyard restaurant. The Fido’s Kitchen menu includes entrees and appetizers named after the hotel staff’s pets, from Milo’s Chopped Veggie and Chicken Salad to Stella’s Mutt”za” Balls, and are all between $8-12. With the W P.A.W. (Pets Are Welcome) amenities, your pet will feel downright spoiled with a welcome amenity, pet bed, food and water bowl and mat, and turndown treat. (Note: The P.A.W. program is $25/night and requires a $100 nonrefundable cleaning fee.)

If you’re in Scottsdale and your pup’s feeling exhausted by the travel, why not treat him or her to some doggie yoga at the W Scottsdale? Every first Tuesday of the month at 7pm you can take your dog to the hotel’s courtyard for a free “doga” class; just bring a mat. Oh My Dog Boutique and Spa owner Jackie Bacha leads the classes, which consist of owner-assisted dog poses and massages developed by the combined efforts of a yoga instructor and an animal therapist. Just note that the doga doesn’t start until 7:30; the first half hour (called “yappie hour”) is set aside for the dogs to get used to each other and to get all the excitement out of their systems. A stay at the W Scottsdale isn’t required, but if you do stay you can enjoy W P.A.W. amenities.
