Help Wanted: Must Love Rocks.
Stonehenge, England’s famous mystical monument, is currently seeking a new general manager. The role was recently created by English Heritage, an organization that oversees over 420 historical assets of the British Crown – including Stonehenge. English Heritage’s Historical Properties Director Tim Reeve said the opportunity comes at an “exciting time to get involved in Stonehenge’s future.”
The next year will see the opening of new exhibition galleries, the closure of a busy road that cuts through the landscape, and many more endeavors that will, “reconnect Stonehenge with its ancient landscape,” he said.
Stonehenge sees roughly one million visitors each year, with tens of thousands trekking annually to celebrate the Summer Solstice with costumes, music, and dance, and partake in the site's mythical properties. (This year's festivities will be held on June 21st.) The historic site was constructed somewhere between 2,000 and 3,000 B.C., and while there are plenty of theories why – aliens?! – its existence continues to leave historians stumped. Think you've got what it takes to oversee one of the seven wonders of the medieval world? Stonehenge’s general manager would supervise a staff of 80 employees and 100 volunteers, coordinate arrangements for seasonal gatherings, and ensure the “highest standards of customer service and standards across the site.” You may also have to ward off restless spirits, but with a salary of a cool $99,229, you’ll be able to invest in a proton pack.
If you want to check out the work environment before landing the gig, this week’s Top 25 features a deal to London, Stonehenge, and Bath, including airfare and tours.
