Expert Review

For a taste – or, better yet, a delicious and considerable gulp – of Recoleta-living without having to check into a hundred-plus room hotel, Algodon offers just 10 suites in a 1912 neoclassical mansion, opened to guests in September 2010. As with much in this South American capital, proportions are huge: Suites start at 600 square feet, and more than double in size after that (the larger ones have working fireplaces, too). All come with pillow menus, complimentary Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, Nespresso coffee machines, 24-hour butler service, pre-printed business cards, and sprawling marble and limestone bathrooms, with his and hers sinks, oversized steam showers with rainforest and waterfall fixtures, and standalone deep-soaking tubs. Rent one suite, or rent them all for the full 20,000-square-foot mansion effect. There’s a teak deck on the roof, with swimming pool, lounge chairs, hot tub, and bar. The spa’s just next door, with a sauna and steam room, and treatments featuring Vine Therapy products from Algodon’s sister property, Algodon Wine Estates in San Rafael, Mendoza, where you can also stay for a few nights, play tennis or golf, or buy a luxury home. A bottle of Algodon’s excellent potable product is included in every suite, but you can certainly try more in the mansion’s 50-seat Chez Nous restaurant, where French-Argentinean fusion dishes are served, or in one of its two bars (one of them is ventilated, with an extensive selection of premium handcrafted cigars and a long list of cognacs).
