If you’ve ever sailed with Disney Cruise Line, you know their stage shows — including “Aladdin,” “Tangled,” and “Frozen” — are some of the best at sea, using stunning high-tech graphics, costumes, and sets to bring these stories to life. This month, a new musical is launching on Disney Dream: “Beauty and the Beast.”

With the live-action movie starring Emma Watson out earlier this year (and playing on all of Disney’s cruise ships), you can brush up on Belle and the Beast’s love story before you see the production, which draws inspiration from the film.

Using the motif of a music box to guide viewers through the story, the stage show adaptation of the animated fairytale will light up the 1,340-seat theater with theatrical renditions of the tale’s hit songs, including “Be Our Guest” and “Something There.” The show will also feature two new songs that were created by award-winning composer Alan Menken and lyricist Tim Rice for the film.

Like other Disney plays, "Beauty and the Beast" will use technology to tell the tale of Belle’s journey to the Beast’s castle. Non-human characters such as Lumiere (a candlestick) and Mrs. Potts (a teapot) will come to life on stage through a combination of both costumes and puppetry, the same way Olaf and Sven did in the "Frozen" show on Disney Wonder.

Performances of the show start on Disney Dream in November. Thinking about booking? Disney Dream sails three- and four-night cruises from Port Canaveral to the Bahamas.
