Star Pride

Our Ship Review

Windstar Cruises expanded beyond its signature sailing ships when it christened the Star Pride in May 2014. Part of a trio of “power yachts,” this sleek little vessel was built in 1988 as the Seabourn Pride. Today, it’s been updated to fit into the Windstar style of casual elegance with a focus on destinations and personal service. What’s more, the ship will get another $3 million refurbishment in April 2016 to get some of the improvements that have already been made on its newer fleetmates, Star Breeze and Star Legend.

What We Love

Dining Under the Stars: In the evening, the casual buffet eatery is transformed into Candles, a reservation-recommended restaurant with no cover charge. Guests dine on grilled steaks and skewers, salads, and indulgent desserts.

Sandwich Bar: Sometimes you just want a simple sandwich for lunch, or to take on a shore excursion. You can grab a freshly made one at the Yacht Club.

Best Known For

Yacht-Style Ambience: From its small size — no more than 212 passengers — to the crisp nautical décor, the Star Pride sometimes feels like you’re sailing on a private yacht.

Attentive Service: The small size of the ship means you get to know the staff  — and, quickly, they learn your favorite drink and how you like your steak. This also is a rare ship with an open-bridge policy, so you can pop in to visit the officers while at sea.

Who It's Best For

Affluent Couples: Windstar clients are usually pairs of professionals 40 to 70 years old who are well-educated, members of country clubs or art associations, and interested in food and wine.

Don't Say We Didn't Warn You

It’s Oh-So-Quiet: Evenings include a couple of musicians playing, or a private conversation over an al fresco drink. One thing is for sure: You won’t see Blue Man Group on the Star Pride.
