Zuiderdam

Our Ship Review
Holland America Line
Cruise Line
Deal Expert / Travel Blogger

Built in 2002, the Zuiderdam was the first in Holland America’s Vista-class series. The 1,964-passenger ship got an update in 2015, with new staterooms and dining venues, including Canaletto restaurant and the fun Dive-In at the Terrace Grill, an outdoor grill by the Lido pool. Like on all Holland America ships, the popular Dancing with the Stars at Sea program is a crowd-pleaser. Cruisers can learn a variety of dances, then compete in a dance-off to try to win a place on Holland America’s "champions" cruise.

What We Love

B.B. King's Blues Club: The B.B. King's All-Stars band adds a soulful sound to the Queen’s Lounge each night with Memphis-style music thats gets passengers up and dancing.

Pinnacle Grill: Upscale and elegant, the Pinnacle is the place to go for an excellent steak. Order the 18-ounce bone-in rib eye, or the broiled Alaskan king salmon, paired with a bottle from the excellent wine list. The $29 fee is worth it.

Best Known For

Educational Programs: Holland America has cleverly forged a variety of partnerships. Programs include the Digital Workshop powered by Windows and the Culinary Arts Center, presented by Food & Wine magazine.

Artwork: Don’t miss the painting of Queen Beatrix by Andy Warhol, medallions by Frank Lloyd Wright, and a massive floral painting by Charles Ben.

Who It's Best For

Destination-Driven Travelers: Zuiderdam is ideal for people more interested in the destinations and ports than the latest shipboard activities.

Don't Say We Didn't Warn You

Not for Night Owls: The Zuiderdam quiets down pretty early, so those looking for nightlife will be out of luck.
