Expert Review

Welcoming guests for more than a century to the ritzy Mayfair district, The Connaught underwent a redesign by Parisian style star India Mahdavi (responsible for Condesa DF, Mexico City, and Hotel on Rivington, New York City). An earlier incarnation from 1897 known as the Coburg Hotel (after German-born Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg) was renamed in World War I for Prince Arthur, the Duke of Connaught. Today, modern elements join decor from all eras of the hotel's existence, like the flat-screen TVs near original Edwardian wood paneling and Art Deco-inspired lounge chairs. Hélène Darroze, who trained under Alain Ducasse, runs the hotel's Michelin-starred restaurant bearing her name.
