Expert Review

The mosaic of big money and powder hippie that defines Sun Valley is best seen at the 148-room 1936 Sun Valley Lodge. College grads and stockbrokers alike sidle up to the bar in the oak-paneled Eddie Duchin Lounge, named for the famous pianist who crooned there in the 1940s. The oldest and plushest hotel in town-with an Olympic-size ice rink where world famous skaters like Sasha Cohen, Alexei Yagudin and Surya Bonaly perform-was a favorite haunt of luminaries like Clark Gable, Ingrid Bergman, and Ernest Hemingway (Hemingway penned For Whom the Bell Tolls in room 206).
